Númenna - Shawl
MEASUREMENTS
79 cm/31” long
163 cm/64” wide
PATTERN INFORMATION
A surprisingly quick project, using only a few different stitches, which is perfect for beginners to try.
The center looks like a gorgeous sunset after a nice summer day.
The name Númenna means westward, the way of the sunset and it’s perfect for this shawl.
It looks beautiful with the suggested yarn, without having to change colours.

A pretty pattern, and can be done while chatting, watching TV. Well described and photographed. Basically, a 6-row repeat, but keep instructions handy for the varying increases and other details.
I made changes because I used a 3mm hook and crochet tightly, as well as for design reasons. E.g., more repeats, adding the increases to the sc row only, different numbers of shell picots/row for later repeats, and I will have a different ending. Still easily recognizable as the same pattern, though.
Only tip: explicit instructions on when to change the colours are missing. It’s suggested that the yarn is used continuously: ‘It looks beautiful with the suggested yarn, without having to change colours.’ This is a little unclear. It’s actually 3 repeats of the 1st colour, and then onto the next colour band at rows 19, 25, 31, 37, etc.
Started on April 16, 2025, and I’m nearly finished. That includes frogging! Also on Ravelry (1,000 character limit on Hobbii).

I've been crocheting since i was around ten (I'm 69), so I've made a lot of projects, mostly from old patterns from my Mom and Grandma. These patterns are often difficult to follow, and there is a lot of ripping out involved. The Numenna pattern flowed and i was able to crochet at my usual speed. I used Sultan King, as i didn't have Deluxe, so i finished with Twister; the shawl is beautiful. Thank you so much!!

My shawl turned out beautifully. I used Twister in Rhubarb and Cream. VERY well written pattern! I consider myself an intermediate crocheter, but even a beginner could follow this easily. It came out much smaller than I expected, but probably my fault for not doing a gauge check. Very, very, pretty and I will definitely be making another one.

This pattern is lovely to work up . I am a beginner. This pattern is easy to follow . I did not use the recommended yarn because ai wanted to use up some of my Hobbi 8/4, which worked out quite well. I used two different yellows and rust. Very happy with the results. Will be making another one with Twist soon.

Ordered the yarn and the pattern and I'm about 20 rows in. It's an easy repeat and it works up quick. I'm not used to a finer yarn, but it's getting easier for me the bigger it gets. I will be making this pattern again with another color as well.
