Soft Alpaca is an exquisite yarn of an exclusive grade. It’s spun from 100% pure alpaca and has all the best qualities of superb alpaca fibers.

The alpaca is known all around the world for its soft, warm, and slightly curly fur. The animals’ furs have adapted to the extreme, constantly changing weather conditions in South America with both sun, heat, wind, and bitter cold. Warm when it’s cold and cool and airy when the sun is scorching. That’s what makes these fibers perfect all year round.

The alpaca fibers are hollow, actually like super thin tubes full of air, which grants them excellent insulating properties that are up to eight times warmer than wool from sheep. That’s why you can keep warm with a very thin and light knit. When the fine, natural fibers are spun into our Soft Alpaca, the result is a lovely yarn quality that’s very durable and amazingly soft against your skin.

Soft Alpaca has a natural weight that makes the fabric drape beautifully whether it’s knit or crocheted. For the same reason, it’s great for shawls, fabulous sweaters, and super soft accessories of all kinds. Alpaca does not contain lanolin, so if you’re, e.g., allergic to sheep’s wool, alpaca is a nice, natural alternative.

Colors no. 2 and 42 are completely natural shades of alpaca that haven’t been dyed.

The yarn is OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certified (no. 2476-419). Find more information about the certification at https://www.oeko-tex.com/en/

This yarn is incredibly soft to the touch, kitten soft. You'll want to touch it over and over again. I also find it to be very cool to the touch. When I unraveled my work and gave the yarn a steam to relax it, I had a very hard time telling if it was still wet or just cold. It's a little on the hairy side, too, almost like what you'd get when holding mohair double with a wool yarn. The fabric has a lovely, soft drape to it, so it's not a good choice for structured projects. My stockinette swatch's natural state is to be completely rolled up vertically, despite being blocked.

The most important thing to keep in mind is that you need to be patient when it comes to swatching for gauge. The yarn takes a very long time to dry and it will continue shrinking as it does, even more so than with wool. Let it rest several days in a low humidity environment before you measure, or you just might find your finished project is smaller than you wanted.

This yarn is so soft and has a silky feel to it! I bought it in the color cappuccino (44) and also the soft alpaca lace to hold together in a shawl as an alternative to wool and mohair. I get quite sensitive around my neck, and this worked so perfectly! No irritation to my neck, I will definitely consider this yarn again for another scarf/shawl or a hat since it is so soft!

Karla

This yarn is so beautiful and soft! I double stranded it with a merino wool to make a hat and cowl, and they're so warm and fuzzy! It feels very strong too, so I imagine it will be very durable. Highly recommend this yarn

I bought this product to crochet a scarf. I read it was soft, but when you touch it....wow! It is much softer and not itchy. The colors are amazingly beautiful and easy to crochet with.
Very happy with the yarn!:)

Patricia

I just finished a project with soft alpaca, and it was great to work with! Even consistency with stiches, no knots, no snagging and just a smooth pull out from its center. Highly recommend this yarn!
