I just found this pattern via Ravelry and am very tempted to try it.
Laura, I believe your yarn twisting issue might have be solved by crocheting from outside the ball rather than center pull. I haven’t tested that theory but have seen a pretty good video demonstrating this.
Perhaps this tip might benefit someone else.
