You have a very special booklet in your hands: KNITTING SCHOOL by Sys Fredens.

The booklet was originally published by Klematis in 2004 and has been discontinued after selling more than 35.000 copies.

In cooperation with knitting designer Sys Fredens, Hobbii now has a unique opportunity to publish this iconic booklet that will help any beginner enter the knitting universe safely and stylishly.

The booklet contains all the original patterns, now updated with yarns sold by Hobbii. The patterns in the booklet are timeless and still ideal for beginners who want to learn how to knit from scratch, or intermediates who want to try their hands at knitting a sweater. The booklet fits perfectly in your bag, but you also have the option of learning the techniques on Hobbii’s own YouTube channel.

Sys Fredens writes: It’s amazing that this book can still inspire knitters, whether they’re beginners or intermediates. The book opens with an introduction to knitting to ensure that any reader will get off to a good start. The first patterns are simple, while the last patterns increase in difficulty.

All designs are knit in neutral shades, but you can find all the yarns listed on Hobbii’s website in many wonderful colors to suit your specific tastes.

The following items can be knit with this booklet:

  • Knit stitch (garter stitch) hat (100 g (3.5 oz) of Woolpower)

I bought this book mostly for terminology, because my fist language is Russian and I have difficulties with English terms, for this task the booklet works well. Clear, simple explanations plus I got it with huge 80% discount. Great deal. Thank you, hobbii.

I bought a whole set of these for my local school - one of the art teachers is going to teach the kids how to knit!

Great book for beginners.

Going back and learning how to knit 30 years after I flopped at knitting in high school, this book was a great help with beginner patterns. The patterns were well written and easy to follow. The diagrams were helpful as a refresher, but I found myself referring to videos to learn. The majority of the patterns are one size fits all accessories. The vest and cable sweater patterns are women’s size small only. The hardest part was trying to figure out what length needles to use. The book specifies knitting needle size, but not length, so wasn’t sure if I should use straight needles, what length straight needles to buy or if I needed circular needles. I hope future editions will include needle lengths and directions to make larger size beginner sweaters. The Hobbii Woolpower and Snowstorm yarns were perfect recommendations for a beginner, because they were stretchy and easy to work with.

It's a nice book for someone who is a beginner. There are a few diagrams for cast-on, bind-off, knit, increase, decrease. No projects. But will make a nice little reminder book for a new knitter.
