The dark normally teaches us to appreciate the light – not to mention clear and strong colors. Give a little room in the dark to see these great bright colors of Sultan Shadow unfold.
All the variations in the Shadow series have a foundation in deep black, which the colors then slowly grow from. The dark bottom gives the clear colors extra power and makes them seemingly shine and catch the eye.
Cotton Kings Sultan Shadow is a lovely soft cake yarn in 100% cotton, which is loved and admired for its beautiful color changes. The quality results from 4 thin threads that are not twined together, which makes it extra soft and airy.
The colors in Sultan Shadow change slowly, by only 1 thread at a time, which makes for a fantastically beautiful transition of colors. It makes it extra exciting to knit and crochet with because one gets to see how the colors meet when your creative project unfolds. It takes about 1 skein to make a shawl/scarf.
Tip: before using the Sultan Shadow skein, run the 4 threads through a bead so the threads are gathered throughout the work.
The yarn is OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certified (no. 2076-311). Find more information about the certification at https://www.oeko-tex.com/en/

I bought one cake in black/red (color 07) to make a shawl for myself. The yarn is wonderfully soft and it draped beautifully when I finished it even before blocking. Though there is an interesting quirk regarding the color gradient.
You know how the description says the colors change one thread at a time? Well every time it did so with my cake, there was a little knot for the next color. I'm not sure if that's universal with the other cakes in this series, but it is something to keep in mind if you buy this for your next project. It is also a little on the pricy side (even with close to 900 yards included), so I'd recommend getting it during a sale or hoping it's being given away during Bingo or Live Shopping events!
I will be getting another cake in the future, maybe for a gothic duster...

I have used one cake of sage to make the Cosmos Blouse, and one cake of indigo to make the Jasmine Tea shawl. This yarn is much more soft than the scratchy kitchen cottons I'm used to getting in American chain stores, which makes it great for clothing. The gradual color changes look very subtle, especially with open stitches. The four threads can be inconvenient when I work quickly and get sloppy, but when I'm working that quickly, I'd be splitting plied yarns, too. I would have thought that the knots where the color changes are would be obnoxious, but they are so small that they just disappear into the work. All in all, I love this yarn, and I already have more in my cart.

I love this cotton. I have made many beautiful shawls and blankets with it.
I started buying it when it was called sultans shadow. There were many beautiful colors to choose from. I bought most of them. I started a blanket with the purple shadow and needed a couple more cakes but unfortunately it was discontinued. I’m excited to see it back under a new name although there are less colors.
Today I filled my cart so I could get started on some orders only to find that even with the discount it’s become cost prohibitive.
The product itself is definitely 5 stars.
The cost of the product is 1 star

I adore this yarn. The cotton is soft. The colors are even more beautiful in person than online. It is light and has beautiful drape to it. It makes for beautiful shawls and lovely light garments. Yes it is 4 strands UNTWISTED together. Yes there are tiny knots where the color transitions, but they are not noticeable once worked up. Using a small bead helps to reduce the splitting factor. It wasn’t too much of an issue for me. You just need to pay attention to how you are picking up the yarn a bit more. I have many cakes in many colors of Sultan Shadows and lots of plans for more projects using it.

Worked up this yarn using a 3.5mm crochet hook. It’s a thin yarn that gives a drape effect to your project that flows very nicely. This yarn is 4 thin strands that are NOT twisted together, it takes some time getting used to but the colored strands change one at a time giving this gorgeous gradient to your project. I absolutely recommend this yarn. I think this yarn would be nice if it was twisted though, not having them twisted gives the yarn a much softer feel to it but I believe it would be just as soft if twisted together.
