This wonderful little circular needle from German addi now makes it easier to knit socks, sleeves, mittens and baby clothes. Addi Sock Wonder Lace is an asymmetrical round needle which makes it easier to work around when you’re working hard on small projects with a small circumference. The needles have different lengths; the long needle is 70 mm (2.75 inches) and the short needle is 45 mm (1.77 inches). You knit with the long needle in the right hand while holding the short needle in the left. If you are left handed then it’s the opposite of course. With these needles you have the possibility to knit one whole sock without changing needles along the way. The cable is the same as addis’ other circular needles, smooth and light but only 13.5 cm (5.3 inches) long. Since everything is made so wonderfully, even the transition from needle to cable is totally smooth, so you’ll just want to use the circular needle over and over again.

The longer needle has a LACE tip, which has a more tapered, sharper point than the shorter needle.

Addi have their headquarters in Germany and their products are likewise produced in Germany. With addi’s tools you’re guaranteed quality which is built to last. The needles are nickel free and can easily be used by people with allergies.

These are a beautiful tool for a sock and particularly mitten or glove knitter. Cuffs for socks or gloves, fingers, toes, small sleeves for little dog jumpers, dolls’ or baby clothes, all call for these to make knitting them easier. Any small circular circumference flows easily on those little needles, and the longer working needle makes much handier work with them. Even if you normally prefer DPNs it is worth your while giving these a serious go. They also double up as stitch holders and cable needles. I particularly like the smooth transition between cable and needle and their light weight.

I'm so thankful I tried these needles! I'm currently knitting my first pair of socks with them. I like how there's a larger needle for my dominant hand that I use to make the stitches and a smaller needle where the stitches sti while waiting to be worked. I had a little hand cramping at first, but once I got a few rows in the stitches were not stretched so tight and I could relax my hands more. I'm a tight knitter (I usually go 1-2 sizes up from suggested needle sizes), and I haven't had an issue with these needles.

These needles have completely upped my sock game. After knitting socks with the magic loop for 2 years I decided to give these a try and they're amazing! Smooth, not too sharp, and knitting goes way faster not having to switch back and forth between needles. The only drawback, as some have mentioned, is knitting the heel flap with the smaller end. Instead I just use 2 DPNs to knit that part and switch back the circulars for the rest. I do wish they came in 2.75mm though, but other than that, I highly recommend!

These are so much easier on my hands than a standard 9” circular. I only use tiny circulars for colorwork socks; otherwise I use DPNs. While the Addi needles are not a true US 1 (they are slightly larger), I’ve found the size difference to be perfect for maintaining gauge on my colorwork knitting. I plan to buy at least one more pair of these so I can have multiple colorwork sock WIPs at a time.

I was very skeptical but now I'm sold on this style of sock needle. The only drawback is using the short side when going back and forth on the heel flap. I grabbed a single dpn and used for the flap. The lace tip is excellent for sock weight wool and I'm having any splitting problems thus far. I'm retiring the dpn sock knitting method. Will be ordering more sizes soon.
