This is an adventurous beginner pattern. I had to use multiple size cables to get this to work: 40 cm cable for the brim, 150 cm to use for magic loop for the body of the hat, and dpns to finish the very top. I learned how to join stitches in the round, use various needle sizes to control the gauge. After the brim my gauge was too tight so I switched to larger needles so my hat was a bit slouchy. Towards the end I was getting short on yarn so I switched back to smaller needles.
