We’ve got news, friends… Hobbii has a podcast! It’s called Skein and Tell and it’s hosted by someone you just might know (hint: she’s hosted Bingo, she’s all over our YouTube, and you might’ve seen her in a Live Shopping or two). That’s right, our beloved Gea is behind the mic, and she’s here to spill the yarn on everything from fiber facts to crafting chaos. 🧶

With new episodes every Monday and eight ready to listen to right now, we’re hoping Skein and Tell will be your new favorite crafting companion. 🎧

We had a chat with Gea about what you can expect from Skein and Tell, why she’s so excited about it, and how you can be part of it too. 👀

Who are you and what do you do at Hobbii?

Hi, I’m Gea! Gea from Hobbii. I’ve been with this incredible company for nearly six years, and let me tell you, it’s been a wild and wonderful ride. Over the years, I’ve worn a lot of hats: managing YouTube content, hosting our first English Hobbii Bingo, running LIVE Shopping events... You name it!

And now, I’m beyond thrilled to be part of launching our podcast. It’s a dream come true to be able to share my passion for crafting with such an amazing community.

What’s Skein and Tell all about?

Skein and Tell is more than just a podcast, it’s an invitation to connect. From the very beginning, we wanted this podcast to resonate with the heart of our audience because, well, you are the heart of it. This isn’t just about talking at you; it’s about being with you, learning alongside you, and growing in our craft together. It's like a big "Show and Tell" where we share our projects, our triumphs, and yes, even our mistakes, and we get to nerd out about all of it. It’s a space where we can learn, share, and just be together, like finding your people who truly get you. That’s what Skein and Tell is all about.

How did you come up with segments like “Gossip Corner” and “What’s Trending”?

I’ve always loved a good show. When I find something that grabs me, I binge it, whether it’s a podcast or a TV series. We wanted Skein and Tell to feel like that: something dynamic, something you could get lost in and look forward to each week.

We wanted it to be fun to record, and just as much fun to listen to. So, instead of just the usual interviews, we thought, why not create these little pockets of excitement and learning, like “What’s Trending” or “Weird Yarn Monday”. It lets us have a little bit of fun with the content, adding stories and tangents that keep everything fresh. It’s about making the podcast something you want to press “play” on and never want to stop listening to.

Skein and Tell often touches on niche topics within the fiber arts world. How do you come up with these topics?

Honestly, I personally love going down rabbit holes of obscure, interesting topics. It’s a habit I picked up over the years while writing scripts for our YouTube videos and live events. Some of the things that didn’t make it onto those platforms ended up being perfect for Skein and Tell, so I kept track of them.

But beyond that, I find inspiration everywhere: in everyday life, scrolling through social media, talking to people. The fiber arts community is full of surprises, and there’s always something new to discover. Sometimes, the most unexpected topics are the ones that really take off, and it blows my mind every time. Like, who knew yarn could be such a rabbit hole of mystery and magic?

How will you bring listener stories into the podcast in the future?

This is one of the things I’m most excited about! For Season 2, I’ve already received some incredibly heartfelt stories from our listeners, stories about their crafting journeys and how fiber arts have really touched their lives. I want this podcast to be your podcast, so I’m always listening to what you’re sharing with me.

We’ve got some amazing new segments coming up, like “Crafting Horror Stories” where we talk about the epic fails we’ve had with our projects (because let’s face it, we all have those moments!), and “Keep Calm and Craft On,” where we hear about how knitting or crochet has changed lives. These stories are powerful, and I can’t wait to share them because it reminds us all that we’re not alone in our struggles or triumphs. If you’re reading this and have a story to share, please send it my way to [email protected] :-) I want to hear from you!

How do you stay true to yourself while keeping it fun?

For me, authenticity isn’t something I have to work hard at, it just is. I’ve always been myself, even when it’s a little messy or unfiltered. That’s what makes it real, right? There’s no fine balance to be struck here, it’s just me, hitting record, and sharing what feels true and exciting. I want our audience to feel like we’re having a conversation, not just delivering a scripted show. So, I let my heart and instincts guide me.

Where did the idea for “Yarndiana Jones” come from?

Oh my goodness, “Yarndiana Jones” is one of my absolute favorite things to do on the podcast. It’s a bit of a playful tribute to one of my all-time favorite characters: Indiana Jones. I’ve always been a history nerd, and I used to dream of becoming an archaeologist when I was younger, thanks to Indiana Jones and the magical world George Lucas created.

So, I thought, why not combine that love of history with the world of yarn? That’s how “Archaeology of Yarn with Yarndiana Jones” came to be. It’s a bit cheeky, a bit nerdy, but it makes learning about history fun. I wanted to take these sometimes dry, boring facts and make them come to life in a way that makes you smile and actually remember them. It’s all about making history accessible and entertaining, just like those teachers who were so funny you couldn’t help but hang on to every word.

Any advice for someone just getting into yarn crafts?

Find your people. That’s it. Find your people, whether it’s through social media or offline, but find that community where you feel seen, heard, and supported. Fiber arts can seem solitary at first, but it’s so much more than that! It’s about connection, sharing, and growing together. It’s been that way for centuries, and it’s still true today.

So, dive into the community, share your projects, ask questions, and most importantly, don’t be afraid to embrace your mistakes. That’s how we learn, and that’s how we grow. Oh, and definitely listen to our podcast, it’s a lot of fun, I promise.
