With this yarn we want you to have a feel of the beautiful landscapes of the Faroe Islands. Here, the sheep are allowed to freely roam the endless green pastures. It is from these sheep that Hobbii sources the wool thanks to a family business based on these islands.
It is a 100% brushed bulky wool yarn with a rustic feel to it. Arctica comes in 50 g skeins and it is spun from 3 threads. This wool will keep you warm during the coldest winter weather and still contains some of its lanolin. The lanolin will help the wool stay dry as it is water repellent. Therefore, it will be a great option for outerwear such as jackets, but also for sweaters, cardigans, and pullovers. We think it will look amazing if used for a fair-isle type of project.
The wide color palette allows plenty of possibilities when choosing the yarn for your next creation. The darker colors might bleed a bit hence, we always recommend you make a swatch before starting your project and wash it according to the washing instructions.
If you have very sensitive skin, we do not recommend wearing it in direct contact with your skin. Kindly note that due to its natural fibers, the yarn might show slight variations in thickness between the natural and the dyed colors.
We look forward to you getting warm and cozy with this lovely yarn.
Arctica can be machine felted at 40°C (104°F) with an approximate 35% shrinkage (gauge after wash: 12 m x 24 r).
Hobbii members can purchase Arctica 25 g at this link.

This is a very rustic Faroese yarn, in other words, the long outer hair of the sheep has been spun with the soft inner hair. Much like many ancient Nordic sheep breeds, which part of the hair is used (or if they are spun together) dictates the use. In this case, you get a consistency much like rug wool. Is this bad? I don’t think so, actually. This wool is pretty dang good at holding heat with all the halo it has, and it wants to felt so would be perfect for a project naturally involving that. When I got this, I was surprised by the texture, but I’m making a balaclava and then lining it with silk, and that will allow the wool to do its job perfectly, but with no skin contact. I’ll be buying more of this, I think. Just, if you too want to try it, keep in mind that it’s not a yarn that even tough skin would want to feel, but it will do the job of holding heat very well, and the longer hairs will keep it durable, so it is great for outer garments and has a nice fluffy look.

Hearty and gorgeous! I used it with a 4.5mm hook and it held up so nicely!

Super super rough texture. The only thing I can think to use it for is a basket. I guess a jacket (as suggested), but even the bits that might touch your neck or wrists would be really hard to overlook. It’s the texture of rope. It also sheds a fair amount while you’re knitting with it.
