Baby Cotton Organic Mercerized is an incredibly strong, shinier version of our organic superstar: Baby Cotton.

Mercerizing makes cotton yarn shiny, it keeps its shape and doesn’t shrink in the wash. The yarn becomes extremely durable and more resistant to mold. The wonderful depth of color is also characteristic of mercerized cotton. Since the fibers can absorb more color, the result is a much more intense and lasting color.

The entire line of Hobbii Baby Cotton is spun from long, flexible fibers from the finest Egyptian cotton and it is vegan as well. But this mercerized version is something special indeed!

Mercerizing is a complex process that, among other things, includes immersion in a strong base. But Baby Cotton Organic Mercerized is produced in a new, more sustainable fashion than the traditional process. In specialized plants, the reusable alkali from old batteries is extracted, and these are reused to mercerize our Baby Cotton. That way, precious materials are reused in a new, beneficial way.

The entire process is approved, controlled, and complies with all social and environmental quality standards required to achieve a GOTS certification (Nr. ICEA-TX-273). It’s the highest achievable standard in the production of organic textiles.

About GOTS
The GOTS certification is an internationally recognized standard, which is used for the environmentally friendly and socially responsible production of ecological textiles. It stands for very high demands in all parts of the supply chain, from when the raw goods are harvested, to you having the finished product on your needles. You can read more about the GOTS certifications here: https://www.global-standard.org/

I ordered several skeins of this yarn, and it's for so much going for it. Please keep it in stock?! For one, it's organic. Secondly, it's got more shine than the baby pastel print. Thirdly, it's very very soft and squishy. Lastly, it makes durable, quality items and doesn't have any knots or anything in the middle of the skein. I bought color 10 which is Eucalyptus, and it's just a gorgeous color. I'm going to make a winter hat out of this and just use 2 skeins at once to make it thicker. Feels too good on my face and ears not to use this yarn. Lol

First time ordering and i am loving it! Yarn feels very soft and has a nice shine to it. I got color 14 and i like it as much as I liked it online. I am using it to make a dress that I will be wearing to a wedding in hot weather so I hope it won’t feel too hot. I just wish it came in bigger skeins.

So happy to find affordable GOTS cotton. Already soft, and only gets softer after a wash. Holds up nicely, even when my kids play with the Amigurumi. I have liked all the Hobbii Cotton yarn I've tried so far. (Which is most of them). Hope for more skin tones in the organic options, soon.

Sydnee

I used this yarn in a dark green color to make the Flowerweb Sweater pattern by @by.redbean and it came out exactly as I hoped. It was really easy to work with for the mixed filet/lace crochet motifs in the pattern and ended up very smooth, soft, and still neat looking.

Emilie

When I saw the dark violet color, I was super excited. Fingering/sock yarn in mercerized cotton in these colors is a dream come true. Absolutely beautiful.
