2nd Sunday of Advent - Crochet - Primrose - Tea Towel

MEASUREMENTS

Width: 35.5 cm / 14”

Length: 46 cm / 18”

PATTERN INFORMATION

Conquer your fear of crochet colorwork when you make the Primrose Tea Towel. Crocheted using the inset mosaic technique, this cloth gives you a dynamic motif pattern without the drawbacks of traditional mosaic construction. Colors are carried up the side of the work, leaving you with less ends and more time to admire your amazing skills. Customize your cloth by changing the border color or rearranging your color palette.

Here you can easily and quickly buy everything needed for this pattern.

This pattern looks harder than it is. Definitely watch the video first, but if you can just get through the first 6 to 8 rows of the pattern, it all starts to make sense. All of the stitches are basic and this pattern is probably even OK for a competent beginner. The printed chart looks wonky but if you read it the same direction across for each row no matter what side of the work you're on, it all lines up and makes sense. The written instructions also don't say to ch 1 at the beginning of the row but I think you need to (before you start the initial sc and then go into the pattern) just to get the correct height for the row. This is the second of Toni's projects for the 2024 Advent and for me, both of them so far have been winners.

This is the perfect project to introduce your skills to a new technique. I have never done mosaic crochet before, but Toni explained it so well I was able to learn to read the chart very quickly. Odd rows are read from left to right and even rows are read from right to left. I strongly encourage you to give it a try, much easier than it looks. The stitches are simple. After row 14, I was good. I did frog a few rows but mostly because my count was off. Plus, you can use any of the 8/4 cotton in your stash whether it is Friends, Rainbow or Cotton Cones. I plan on making more of these using all y cotton cones. The combo of colors is only limited by your imagination.
