Elin Berlin of Wool & Beyond brings bold energy to Copenhagen Fibers with a mini collection that’s all about chunky cables, striking color, and the marled texture of Merino and Merino Light held together.
This mini collection is versatile yet bold. We're talking pieces that work year-round, layered or on their own. By pairing Copenhagen Fibers’ Merino yarns, Elin has created designs that feel fresh, youthful, and made to last.
We caught up with her to talk about her story, design process, and what makes this collaboration stand out.
From Fashion Dreams to Wool & Beyond
Knitting, design, Wool & Beyond – what’s the story? And what does the name Wool & Beyond mean to you?
Ok – long story short. I’ve always wanted to be a fashion designer and have a BA in fashion design from KADK, Copenhagen. Anyways, the fashion industry is kinda shitty so then I wanted nothing to do with it and was very clueless about my future.
Knitting was a fun hobby and then I realised that independent knitwear design was a thing and decided that THAT was what I wanted to do. So here we are!
In terms of the name I just think it sounds cool, ‘cause wool rhymes with cool and since it’s BEYOND I can literally do anything I want, haha.
What’s the first thing people should know about you as a designer?
Hmm, tricky question. A fun thing to note about small independent designers in general is that most of us are one-woman-teams!
Oftentimes when people send me emails they phrase them like Wool & Beyond is a great company, but I’m like “HEY IT’S JUST ME”. I literally do eeeeeverything from customer service, design, knitting, marketing, socials etc.

Designing for Copenhagen Fibers
When you first touched the yarns, what popped into your head?
The yarns feel very contemporary yet timeless, and the color range is a great mixture of classics and cool pops. I immediately fell for the merino yarns, since they’re so soft and versatile. I think merino is a great fiber for all-year-use.
Copenhagen Fibers is built around the idea of pieces you’ll reach for again and again. How do you design with longevity in mind?
I put a lot of effort into each and every detail to make my designs very special and unique, which I believe is a great start when it comes to making forever pieces.
I also feel as if the type of garments I’ve designed works well for all seasons. Either worn on their own during the warmer months, or layered up for fall and winter.

Vest + Skirt: A Modern Classic
Vest + skirt, chunky cables, color play – why this combo?
I think the mixture of the marled yarns and the interesting texture with the cables feels very fun and modern!
Cables are always a classic, and I think the color combination makes it more youthful. And I just love a little skirt and an oversized something-something on top. A vest is a little different and works great for layering through all seasons.
What made you want to work with Merino and Merino Light together for this collection?
I was very inspired to work with chunky cables + marled fabric, so this combination just made so much sense. I love that the different weights create an unevenness in the marling!
Textures With a Twist
How do you keep that balance between “classic” and “unexpected”?
I think it’s all in the combination of the classic cables and the marled, more bold color play! I also think the way the cables flow and the “raw” cast on and bind off edges gives it a more unexpected vibe.
The Copenhagen Fibers yarns are rooted in city life. Did urban living influence your ideas?
Style wise I always lean quite urban I think. I’m definitely not a cottage core knitter! My designs tend to be quite modern and minimalistic, and I’d say that so is this collection – with a little more bold twist.
In my head this look is combined with a long or short sleeved tee, depending on the season. Definitely paired with a knee high boot for fall/winter!

Finding the Perfect Color Mix
How did you land on the color combination?
I was looking through the color cards for the yarns to find a combination which first of all would create a good contrast to make the marling pop. Then I looked for fun and unexpected combos which would be suiting for this season. The pale, light blue and the dark burgundy are just so gorgeous together!
Any tips for knitters who feel unsure about mixing shades or holding multiple strands together?
Haha, maybe that knitting with a thicker yarn = faster knitting?? I mean that’s pretty appealing, right!
If you’re excited about mixing shades I think the marling is very forgiving, since you don’t really have to commit to a certain shade. You could even pick a neutral, base colored merino and play with different shades of merino light á la Lærke Bagger. Or you can play it safe and use the same color for both strands!
Staples or Statements?
Do you see these designs as wardrobe staples or statement pieces?
Definitely a little bit of both! It also depends on the color choice. Some of the testknitters have ditched the marled fabric and used the same color for both strands, and the pieces in a solid beige or brown color are just a lot more classic and toned down!
Anything else?
Don’t be afraid to work the smaller cables WITHOUT a cable needle!! It’s quite fun to live on the edge sometimes. However, I very much recommend a cable needle for the larger cables, haha…
