Our Friends Kid Silk is a magnificent combination of kid mohair, silk, and a tiny bit of wool.
The kid mohair fibers come from the young angora goats, making it the finest quality of mohair there is. Hence, the yarn appears thin, lightweight, uniform, shiny, fluffy, and totally free of impurities.
Thanks to these characteristics, projects created with this yarn will not wrinkle or stretch and will be able to keep you warm during the wintertime while being lightweight.
Friends Kid Silk is produced in Italy and comes in a great variety of lively and neutral colors. You can work with a single thread for a more airy effect, or you can use multiple threads to achieve a fuller look. Friends Kid Silk is extremely versatile and can, of course, also be paired with another yarn to add softness and fluff to your project. The result will be definitely outstanding and elegant.
Need some inspiration for your next project? We recommend using our Friends Kid Silk for featherweight shawls, shrugs, and scarves, as well as hats, pullovers, and cardigans.
Add a touch of luxury to your creations with this lovely mohair yarn.
About the Friends family
The colors of the yarns included in the Friends family are literally friends!
This means the color numbers correspond to the same color across the different Friends yarns. If you order the same color number from two different Friends yarns, they will match. Please note that there can be slight differences in the shades from fiber to fiber.
Have fun combining and matching them in all your projects.

Kid Silk was my first adventure in mohair, and I paired it with the extra fine merino in the same color way. I was so pleased to see that the colors not only matched each other as was promised with the friends line, but also that they were true to what I saw on the computer screen. I think the Friends line is a wonderful, reliable staple with the amount of colors available across the many fibers. I could review all of these this positively, but the reason I really like the kid silk is that it can truly transform your work. It takes the look of your finished object from matte which is still beautiful to something with a bit more variety and shine in the strands. And that's just using the same color. You can create some beautiful fabrics by mixing I imagine, so I definitely get it! I loved using kid silk as my first exploration of mohair. It's opening up a whole new world for me. Also - yes, it's super soft. I worked with (79) open sea, and have the (37) rosewood in the wings.
The biggest thing I like about Friends Kid Silk, is the color matching. The effect of mixing two fibers is uniquely beautiful when the fibers match so exactly. Mixing fibers within the Friends line of yarns has been made so easy, even a novice knitter like me is able to produce beautiful textured work. The colors span from bright intense, to softly pastel, something many lines of mohair do not have.
This mohair is amazing! I got the one in the color Cappuccino for a cardigan, the color is a warm, “cozy” brown and the fabric it creates is super soft (I paired with a DK yarn of a different brand). It’s bit pricey, but overall if you wait for a sale and get a sweater/cardigan quantity it’s doable. I haven’t found another brand with such a wide selection of colors!
I'm currently knitting a slipover vest and pairing this yarn with Friends Extra Fine Merino. I purchased both in color 12 (chocolate) and they really do match. The mohair is adding a lovely halo effect and the fabric feels so, so soft! The variety of beautiful colors has me dreaming up my next project with this yarn pairing!
Wonderful mohair/silk yarn to hold with another strand of yarn for beautiful sweaters with a fuzzy halo. While not the softest mohair/silk blend I've worked with, it's a superb choice for the price point.
