After going on a shopping spree with all the gradient yarns, I found this pattern to be super beginner friendly, not intermediate at all. Following the instructions was super easy. Starting out and getting the right stitch count was important but after you get into the flow of repeating rows, you just keep going without having to look at the instructions at all. With proper consistency of stitches and looking back on your work every so often to check for missed stitches or incorrect increases, any newbie can tackle this pattern.
