The yarn is soft and woolen. The colors look very natural, where some almost have a kind of tweed effect. The thickness and character of the yarn makes it very easy to knit with.
A significant factor when we’re talking about the production process when we’re working with recycled materials is that the textiles used don’t travel around the world before they’re reused. This is the reason that we’re buying this yarn from a family-owned spinning mill in India where they have many surplus textiles that can be used for this yarn.
Here you can read some facts about the production process behind Reborn Wool: First, they sort the used garments according to the fibers. The garments that are made from 60% wool or more are sent to the wool sorting line, regardless of the other fibers in said garment. Which means that garments made from 100% wool, 60/40 wool/polyester, 70/30 wool/acrylic, 80/20 wool/PA or any other type of blend where wool is the dominant fiber. Today, few stores sell garments made from 100% wool. The majority of the wool garments that exist on the market today are often blends of wool and other fibers.
The next step in the process is sorting according to color. When fibers are made from this process, it can never be 100% wool, but approx. 65-75% wool, where the rest of the fibers are a blend of polyester, viscose, acrylic, or other fibers. It’s impossible to only use 100% PCT wool garments (Post Consumer Used Textiles) since the percentile of such garments would be too small and the waste would be very high as a result of the raw material’s unpredictable nature. The amount of wool changes from season to season, from PCT - the amount from time to time as well as from color to color. It’s not possible to have a set percentile of wool because of the basic nature of the raw material.
At this point in the process, the wool material is shredded into fibers and approx. 10-15% rPET (recycled polyester) is added. The added rPET depends on the composition of the yarn and fiber blend that’s spun. rPET is added to give it strength and make it uniform when the yarn is spun, since the recycled fiber is weaker than virgin fibers. The added rPET is, once again, 100% regenerated polyester that’s recycled from PET-bottles.
Reborn Wool Recycled is a very beautiful, soft yarn that you can use for all kinds of different projects, clothing, and accessories alike. Have fun with it!
