PLEASE NOTE! This product is being discontinued and we are clearing out the stock. Get yours before it's too late!

Our current Baby Merino XL series will unfortunately be discontinued. But please do not despair: A new and improved series is on its way and will land in the shop sometime during 2021.

We are proud to present our silky soft, flexible merino yarn, designed especially for the world’s best yarny customers.
This is a soft and delicious wool, nice and cosy and absolutely itch free, which many of us appreciate.
If you are knitting or crocheting for babies/ children, you can rest assured that the end result will be super soft when you use our Baby Merino, which is also very easy to care for since it is machine washable.

Hobbii Baby Merino XL is a cable spun yarn, which creates and incredibly strong thread with a wonderful elasticity. You will find that the yarn pulls a little in on itself and is very flexible while you work it. It will straighten out more when you block it and while it will keep its suppleness, you should factor in that the yarn will stretch slightly. For this is reason, it is important that you do not knit too loosely. If you have a tendency to knit loosely, you may need to go down half a needle size. As always, we recommend that you start out with a swatch, so you will know your gauge after blocking - it can save you from regrets later on!

Baby Merino is well suited for pullovers, cardigans, hats, and other accessories - even baby blankets, that need to be warm and can benefit from having a little weight to them. Structured knitting with knit/purl  patterns or cable knitting will show up beautifully in Baby Merino, and more intricate patterns will look very striking, almost sculpted in this yarn.

Want the same yarn, only lighter? Check out our popular and soft Baby Merino, which you will find right here. We have made identical shades for these two “sister-yarns”  making it easy for you to match up your projects, regardless if you knit with the fingering or the DK version.

Mimi

This yard is great to work with and very soft. As a new knitter I'm really happy to have found it-am making a baby gift from it soon! The swatch worked up easily! The colors are quite lovely, I do wish there were some less traditional baby colors to add to the mix-my only criticism.

Johanne

I had purchased this wool to make a small detail on another project, but only recently put it to good use. I am using it in Selbu mittens and I love it. Easy to work with, very soft and squishy with a great definition. Pity that it's being discontinued...

Brandee

This yarn is definitely worth it! its soooo soft a dream to work with I do wish it came with more yards because its a tad expensive full price but if you have someone special and you want to impress them with a none synthetic yarn THIS IS A GOOD CHOICE!

Kattalin

Very soft and the color is gorgeous (I got the wine melange). Haven't used it yet as I want to chose the perfect pattern to go with it but I did order a creamy white version of it last year (sadly not in stock anymore) that was a delight to knit.

Linda Hammond

I love this yarn, it is so soft and beautiful to work with. I made a “Call the Midwife” baby blanket for my first grandchild. I was worried it might be scratchy but it is so snuggly and very soft.
